“Burberry Inspire Project
University Academy Keighley is one of just eight schools chosen to be part of the Burberry Inspire Project. The project will run for four years in total and we are almost at the end of our first year, which culminated in a performance and art exhibition from students of UAK and South Craven School on the 28th June, which was attended by many proud parents and staff.
UAK was lucky enough to be partnered with Leeds Playhouse for our first year, who have been running workshops in school, and we were pleased to welcome Jenny Jones as our Artist in Residence, along with Stella Litras, Razwan Ul Haq and Stage Manager Megal Kearney. There were displays of our students’ calligraphy taught by Razwan, creative writing and drama guided by Stella and the evening’s performance was set around a school lunchtime.
Head of School Jon Skurr, who attended the performance, stated, “We are all so proud of our students for stretching themselves to take part over the past months – their hard work certainly paid off. Thank you to Burberry Inspire who have created a wonderful programme for our young people to experience the arts, supported by professional organisations.”
Next year UAK will be partnered with Leeds Young Film, followed by Northern Ballet and The Hepworth Wakefield in years 3 and 4.
Isobel Perrings, Project Coordinator said, “This project has given our students an opportunity to experience creative activities they wouldn’t usually have access to and we are very excited to see what opportunities the next three years bring.”
