Literary ‘Whispers’ from UAK

Students at the Academy celebrated becoming published authors with a book launch and signing at the Academy on Friday 5th May.

Their much awaited publication ‘Whispers’ – an Anthology of short stories and poems has been published in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, Amazon and e-kindle. A fantastic achievement!

The 10 students involved are so passionate about their writing that they initiated fundraising themselves so that they could have their very own writer-in-residence, Matthew Wooding, guide them through a series of creative writing workshops.

The programme, which took place after school for 12 weeks, culminated in the students producing a range of poems and short stories that have now been published.

Mr Wooding, whose books include ‘Letters to Nan’ and ‘No place called home’ said of the work:  “As you read through this collection, I hope you will discover, just as I did, it is the emotion, the small pieces of themselves that these young people have shared through their writing, that bursts from the page.”
